Transmission

Site-specific installation at the Biennale Internationale du Lin, Portneuf, QC
Thread on clear laser-cut acrylic panels, milled acrylic rods, hardware, 106” x 48” x 1 1/2”, 2009

Transmission is a site-specific installation created for the Biennale de Portneuf, installed inside a church at the Altar of Ste. Anne. Drawing inspiration from the silent yet charged atmosphere of the altar, the work is a vertical waveform pattern derived from an audio recording of the altar space. This pattern is rendered in plexiglass and yarn, with the yarn wound around acrylic rods in a technique inspired by a warping board, used in weaving to measure and wind threads under tension. The piece explores unspoken forms of communication within the space by creating a free-floating, sculptural “drawing” of its auditory activity.
